Lazarenko Victor Anatolievich was born on the 26th of April, 1956, in Sumy. After finishing school, he entered Kursk State Medical University (1973-1979). He graduated from the internship on the specialty `Children’s Surgery’ in Belgorod Regional Children’s Hospital, worked as a children’s surgeon in Shebekino (Belgorod Region).
He was a clinical resident in Hospital Surgery Department (1983-1985), a post-graduate student (from 1985), a teacher (from 1988), the associate professor (from 1992), the professor of Surgical Diseases Department -1 (from 1996). Since 2001 he has been the Head of the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Faculty of Post-Graduate Education
V. A. Lazarenko is the author of the scientific discovery `Legitimacy of Development of Immunosuppression under energy homeostasis disturbance of the body by the influence of thrombocytes’. He is the author of more than 500 publications (15 monographs) and 30 inventions, under the guidance of V.A. Lazarenko 17 candidate dissertations and 1 doctoral thesis were defended.
He was awarded with different diploma of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Kursk Regional Duma, the Administration of Kursk Region, the Department of Education and Science of Kursk Region, the Administration of Migration Service. He has some honorary titles (`Excellent Officer of Public Health’, `Honored Physician of the Russian Federation’, 2003). V.A. Lazarenko is the Head of the Senate of KSMU, the Head of the Dissertation Senate in Surgery and Cardiology, Chief-Editor of the journal `Kursk Scientific-Practical journal `Man and Health’, the member of the editorial board of the journal `Clinical and Experimental Surgery’.
He is an operating surgeon of the highest category in Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery, Academician of Academy of Sciences of the RF.
V.A. Lazarenko is the member of the following organizations: Russian Union of Rectors, Board of Rectors of Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities of the RF, Board of Rectors of Universities of Kursk Region, Social-Consultative Council attached to the Department of Federal Migration Service in Kursk Region, Interagency Regional Committee on Social Preventive Work on Offence and against Criminality, Social Council on Moral and Spiritual up-bringing of children and the young in Kursk Region, Chartered Quality Institute, European and Russian Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons and Russian Association of Surgeons-Hepatologists.
V.A. Lazarenko was awarded with the special honors of Academy of Medical-Technical Science `Golden Medal by Chizhevsky’, the international prize `Profession is Life’, the special honours ` To Honour, Virtue, Creation and Mercy’ of the Fund `Assembly of Health’. According to the results of All-Russian Quality Organization he was awarded with the diploma of the laureate. V.A. Lazarenko was awarded with the honors `Knight of Science and Art of Russian Academy of Sciences’.

Kursk State Medical University has a high level of education. Up-to-date methods of teaching are adopted in the educational process and always are improved: problem lectures, lectures-dialogues, computer technologies for training, multimedia training tools, different kinds of testing, rating knowledge assessment. Great attention is paid to practical training of doctors, pharmacists and other specialists. Necessary skills for doctors of various majors are formed by direct contact with patients at clinical departments and during practical training. With the same purpose according to the global trends virtual simulators and mannequins are used.
The University’s activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements of state standards and international standards in quality, management, and directives of the European Association of quality assurance in higher education.
The Independent Public Council “European Quality” has listed KSMU among the Hundred Best Russian universities. Annually, KSMU proves its efficiency which reflected by the monitoring results of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Achieved high ranks in Russian and international ratings of the university such as; Round University Ranking (RUR) conducted by the European scientific and Industrial Board, International Ranking ARES, Rating Agency RAEX (Expert RA), National University Ranking and others.
Since 2016 KSMU has been actively working as part of the three academic medical clusters: West-European, Stomatological, and Chemicopharmaceutical. Today, nineteen thousand (19000) people are studying at the university: seven thousand (7000) students getting a higher education, about nine hundred (900) students – secondary professional education, more than 600 residents and postgraduates, more than ten thousand (10000) specialists of public health and higher education. Among major specialties of higher education taught in English Medium are; General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Economy, Management, Social Work and Biotechnology.
KSMU has nine (9) educational buildings/campuses furnished with modern equipment. Training in Specialties Of Higher, And Continuing Professional Education is carried out at twelve (12) University’s faculties including sixty-five (65) departments. Clinical departments located on the basis of medical establishments. Medico-Pharmaceutical College of KSMU performs realization of programmes of secondary professional education. 132 doctors and 408 Candidates of Science take part in the educational process and academic research work.
Resolving with current problems of provision of health care system by qualified staff, extermination of staff shortage and disbalance in medical organizations, giving primary health care, the university applied innovative educational technologies such as; implementation of continuous education system of health professionals and specifically on the ground of creation of interactive educational modules and specialists accreditation.
Faculty of International Students
In 1991 Kursk State Medical University started the Faculty of international students has trained more than 1,000 Doctors of Medicine, stomatologists (dentist) and pharmacists.KSMU presents its scientific achievements at international exhibitions, as well as participates in international congresses.The university has a center for science and innovation and a council of young scientists. Student scientific society gives an opportunity to all interested students to engage in research work. Nowadays in scientific groups work over 1,500 students, about 300 of them are engaged in long-term studies.Graduates of Kursk State Medical University are in demand in various fields of health care, medical science, business and economy. University placement office monitors the views of employers about the quality of graduates. Marketing research results allow to coordinate the activities of KSMU and employers to help graduates with employment. Annually Job fairs are held for graduate students and interns.
Library and Research
The fund of the library is a rich collection of scientific educational foreign literature it has approximately 500000 copies. the library gets more than 30000 copies per year. the unique collection of rare books in medicine of theXVIII-XX centuries is the pride of the library.
The teaching staff, post- graduates, students and practical physicians are library readers (the average amount of them is 9000 people per year including 6000 students). There are 2 types of rooms 2 sitters room 3 sitters room of course students are free tp choose either to live in the hostel or outdoors. There are many apartments available in Kursk region in affordable price. More than 20% of the international students live outdoors.
Due to the large number of international students in KSMU a special rooms for the international students was arrange in other hostels colleges in the city that its close to KSMU with the same comfort and rules and safety of KSMU.

Faculty of International Students
- Faculty of General Medicine :The program is designed to train qualified physicians oriented to the practice of medicine. Standardised patients are used to evaluate medical students and residents ability to take patient histories, communicate with patients, and determine diagnosis and treatment. The curriculum offers a six-year program leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The faculty was established in 1935. Since then more than 20,000 physicians have been trained by and graduated from the faculty. Among the faculty graduates of all years there are 120 D.Sc. and more than 650 Ph.D. Many graduates have established new schools and original scientific trends.
- The training is provided at 49 departments of the University. The faculty teaching staff of 400 teachers include 70 D.Sc. 275 Ph.D., 2 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, honored worker of higher school of the Russian Federation, more than 35 academicians and corresponding – members of the Russian and international academies. 10 honored physicians of the Russian Federation work at the departments of the clinical profile, actually all the teachers have the higher or the first medical category.
Students can participate in year-round recreation, including football, tennis, basketball, swimming in summer, or skiing and skating in winter. the University encourages the broadest participation of its students in a wide variety ofathletic programs. During holidays the students can relax in the camp “medic” in the woods on the bank of the volga River.
international students may live in the students dorm or have an apartment or a room arranged for them by the University. Kursk Medical University has 6 hostels for all the students. Out of these hostels, 3 modern hostels are available to international students. These hostels are about 5-10 minutes walking distance from the University. There is a centrally heating system in every hostel. Hot water facilities are available in every room.
But the living conditions are rather spartan: two or three persons to a room, eight rooms on each floor, one kitchen,tow toilets, shower in the basement. students cannot select their rooms. the number of rooms is limited and thereforeearly applications will be given priority. in addition some students may be uncomfortable with the rather strictdormitory rules.off-campus apartment Rent amounts depends on the Location size and condition of the apartment As a rule Apartments offers for rent are supplied with furniture and basic household appliance ( Refrigerator, Tv, telephone).
